Human Trafficking, and estimated $ 150 Billion industry coined as modern-day slavery, traps and victimizes many children and adults to be sold for sex and labor work. Children across our country and beyond are targeted, recruited, and victimized. This workshop will highlight the specifics of human trafficking involving children and adolescents - the entrapment methods, the impact, the recovery of children and teens, likely victims, vulnerable populations, myths, misconceptions, legislation, and the importance of advocacy.

About the presenters
Presenter: Susan Lucas,FBI Special Agent, Detroit Division
Experience as it relates to this presentation: Susan Lucas has made a career out of investigating human trafficking cases, mostly in the Ann Arbor area. She has also trained police officers in Southeast Michigan about human trafficking and how to connect with survivors. In addition to this, she has worked on cases involving kidnapping, child murder, child sexually abusive material, recovery of child victims and provides workshops and trainings on these topics. She is a certified FBI instructor and has helped draft laws relative to human trafficking in Michigan.
Presenter: Nicole Denson, Chief Executive Officer MOSAIC Collective Consulting, LLC
Experience as it relates to this presentation: Through hard work and dedication, Nicole has become recognized as an expert in providing advocacy services to marginalized communities with a focus on crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of human trafficking and other traumas for over 15 years. Her extensive expertise in changing the systems related to the handling of sexual assault and intimate partner violence cases within our criminal justice system has helped to shape survivor-centered practices and protocols nationally. Nicole honors the work she provided daily for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to aid the 11,341 survivors whose rape kits went unsubmitted for testing in Wayne County, Michigan. To date, Nicole has assisted in developing over 15 trauma-informed programs and has led over 30 workshops and support groups to aid in healing our communities. Her activism has reached the masses via platforms such as HBO, Lifetime, and the Washington Post. She is a contributing author to Aishah Shahidah Simmons’ book “Love With Accountability,” where she details her journey from sexual violence toward activism and healing. Nicole launched her own business--Mosaic Collective Consulting. At MOSAIC, the concentration is on cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Services offered include research, interventions, and approaches to assisting survivors of trauma
